Well, I really enjoy interacting with my customers and understanding their pain points. That helps me craft a technology solution that can best address these issues.
However, I also believe that technology must be a step ahead (or maybe a few steps ahead!) and I often try to forecast what kinds of issues my customers might face and try to delight them with solutions that they would not even have anticipated.
But either way, it is the direct interaction with my customers that has motivated me to develop the products and applications that I have built.
Now, I know what some of you are thinking! What is the most difficult part of being a TPM?
In my case, as I develop a solution and a roadmap, it is important that the Executive management, stakeholders, and the other cross-functional teams implementing the solution are all aligned. But often, that is not the case. Aligning them is easily the single most challenging aspect that I face a TPM.
What about you? What motivates you to be a TPM? What is the toughest part of this role? Do share your thoughts and comments.♦
